gnome-shell-common software package provides common files for the GNOME graphical shell, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-common
gnome-shell-common is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gnome-shell-common package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gnome-shell-common *
You will get with gnome-shell-common package name, version, architecture and description in a table
